Systems Administrator Linux
Minneapolis, MN Downtown
9-12 month Contract
Linux Administrator is responsible for the deployment and administration of Linux (Red Hat), Client-UX and VMware environments, applications, deployments and data sources within a Unix / Linux (Red Hat) enterprise.
Responsibilities include serving as a Linux expert to set technical standards and requirements as well as applying a broad range of related principles and practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deployment, administration and operational support of production, test and development environments for multiple Linux related projects.
Work with development teams to determine new innovation requirements for business projects.
Keep concurrent with research and software enhancements including security patches and bug fixes.
Monitor application server performance and respond appropriately.
Assist with reviewing and selecting hardware to meet the business needs.
Monitors systems capacity and performance.
Plans and execute disaster recovery procedures.
Provide detailed written and verbal communications to both technical and non-technical audiences including white papers, project planning, proposals etc.
Work closely with other professionals and senior management to understand and address business requirements.
Interpret and apply department policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Provide reports, training and guidance to colleagues and other internal IT professionals
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Administering command line Linux in the enterprise, preferably Red Hat Linux
Scripting - preferably Bash or Korn
Open-source tool sets
Linux server performance monitoring tools
Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be delivered to both technical
and non-technical audiences.
Strong personal initiative capable of driving tasks through to completion.
Must have an analytical approach to problem solving with effective planning and execution.
Understands project management principles.
Lead implementations and manage the maintenance of Linux environments.
Work within a large team environment as well as on own initiative.
Ability to contribute towards predefined objectives and deadlines.
Set technical Linux Red Hat standards and requirements.
DESIRED:
Strong understanding of server and application health monitoring
Defining and implementing system update methodologies
Supporting and implementing system monitoring
Supporting web based applications on Linux
Basic knowledge of Oracle SQL
Linux and Veritas File System Management
VMware virtualized environments, including vSphere 5.x (ESXi) and vCenter Server
Experience with the Client-UX operating system and san based storage solutions a plus
Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
