Job Description

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

An established and growing insurance organization is actively seeking an experienced Application Development Manager to lead a team of 11.

The Application Development Manager will manage a local IT team who provide support for the preferred legacy rating and enterprise forms services.

The Application Development Manager will have primary responsibility for demand, capacity and resource management for legacy and modern Rating and Forms platforms including
Thunderhead software and Java Services.

The ideal candidate will have a background in developing applications though the full SDLC, from requirements gathering through implementation for rating and forms insurance systems.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

Own technical delivery of various projects within the business operations platform team

Lead and coach a team of developers to ensure that solution deliverables are of the highest quality, optimally designed and scalable to meet future business needs

Work within the established SDLC process to deliver consistent results

Involvement with technical / solution design. Responsible for conducting design reviews and leading/contributing to design work as needed.

Work closely with the architecture team to ensure solutions meet agreed standards

Work with various business stakeholders

Requirements:

5+ years of experience in information technology and insurance (preferred), demonstrating knowledge of Information Systems organization and management.

5+ years experience managing a team of software development professionals (not infrastructure software, complex software applications)

Demonstrated ability to effectively challenge the status quo where applicable

Excellent track record of project delivery of large, complex, integrated projects

Proven history of setting achievable goals and delivering both functional and timely outcomes

Ability to communicate complex technical information to both highly technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong team building and staff development through mentoring, collaboration and partnership

B.S in Computer Science or related field

Home or auto insurance expertise is preferred, healthcare or life insurance will be considered.

Forms or rating experience highly preferred.
