Job Description

Leading University is seeking a consultant who will be involved in a large database migration project, Sybase to SQL Server.

Provide back-fill support for MS SQL Project work, Security Standards, and for daily Operations.

Must have a strong background supporting multiple MS SQL Server environments and configurations;

Must be able to provide support with minimal or no supervision.

List of potential activities:

Infrastructure Migration Project

1. Migrate SQL Server databases from Legacy Infrastructure to new Converged VMware Platform per Project Plans

2. Advise and Implement High Availability or Clustering Solutions on Converged Virtual VMware Environment

3. Evaluate and Assist setup of SQL Server monitoring services on new Platform

4. Setup SQL Server Backup Solution on new platform

Operational Services

1. Review daily operations of SQL Server database, database backups, transaction log backups, dbcc checks and SQL Server Agent jobs for errors.

2. Update test, development, reporting databases from production as requested by application support.

3. Install SQL Server 2008 or later release as required

4. Identify and resolve support issues

5. Participate in Disaster Recover test recovery as scheduled

6. Perform full system restore in a virtual machine environment

7. Perform database administration, tuning and performance monitoring as required

8. Maintain SQL Server 2000-2014 backups, index reorganization, integrity checks, and cleanup jobs

9. Upgrade MS SQL database as recommended by Application Requirements.

10. Implement MS SQL Databases and processes in support of application requirements

11. Check SQL Server and Windows application and system event log entries for warnings and errors

12. Maintain clustering status for all databases in cluster mode.

13. Perform basic User Account administration and security role setup

14. Perform Tuning and performance monitoring as required

15. Upgrade SQL Server databases as required

Security

1. Review and implement recommended Ms SQL Security Standard Operating Environments.

2. Apply SQL Server Security Patches within specified time period

3. Setup and Provide Audit Data on Monthly basis, as required by Security.

4. Review configuration for any security policy violations and excessive resource consumption.

5 Implement, administer and maintain Standard Operating policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the databases.

Advise/Train/Document

1. Provide MS SQL cross-training for other team members

2. Document all support policy and procedures

3. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff members and customers

REQUIRED SKILLS:

SQL Server Encryption, TDE, and Auditing

Bachelors in Information Systems or equivalent experience

MS SQL Certification 2014

10 years database administration experience

8 years of experience with Microsoft server platforms

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Provide 24x7 support as needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience with any or all of the following optional but desirable:

SAP/ASE/Sybase , Oracle Database 11/12c, Oracle Gateways products, ERP products, SQL coding, SQL tuning, Auditing, TDE Materialized Views
