System Administrator
McLean VA
This individual is responsible for providing assistance for the company’s corporate IT systems.
The specific responsibilities include the support of the company’s server infrastructure including hardware, operating system, networking, backup infrastructure, application-support, desktop support for corporate and remote users, hosted VoIP support, hosted email support and hosted audio/video conferencing support.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform a wide range of system administration duties on IT database, application, and other servers including install, debug, maintain, upgrade, and general support.
Proactive monitoring of all servers, applications and services using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA’s.
Perform regular and on-demand system backups and recoveries.
Assist in developing, implementing, testing and maintaining server level disaster
recovery plans.
Collect and review system data for capacity and planning purposes.
Interface with vendors for procurement & maintenance of all IT infrastructures.
Manage & troubleshoot networks, intranet & internet connectivity throughout the organization
Troubleshoot hardware, software and network operating system
Provide orientation to new users of existing technology
Provide individual training and support on request
Provide recommendations about accessing information and support
Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources
Troubleshoot all technology issues
Maintain log and/or list of required repairs and maintenance
Research current and potential resources and services and make purchase recommendations
Provide network access to all staff
Install work stations to include all hardware and software set ups as well as network
accounts and passwords
Monitor security of all technology
Install and maintain Foolproof and passwords
Input and maintain IP addresses
Advise staff of security breach and/or change in password or security status
Ensure installation of lock out program
Identify and prepare hardware for disposal and properly strip and secure in that process
Required knowledge, skills & abilities
Strong server management experience
Experience within an environment that has audit requirements
Experience as a working manager; comfortable in a hands-on role
Experience managing a Windows XP and Windows 7 desktop environment (PC and printer support)
Experience administering a VMware environment
Working knowledge of Cisco Routers, Switches and VoIP phones
Preferred knowledge, skills & abilities
Ability to multi-task and manage time with little supervision
Advanced knowledge of installations, upgrades and troubleshooting of Windows Server 2000/2003 & Web application Servers. Experience with Active Directory highly desirable
Advanced database administration skills including backups/restores, monitoring DB performance, running SQL scripts to monitor the system and modify tables when required.
Knowledge of MySQL server administration and troubleshooting highly desirable.
Working knowledge of web application security, understanding of vulnerabilities and countermeasures
Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently.
Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
6+ years of business experience in a high energy environment
Some Linux experience, with willingness to become proficient in Linux
Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in Systems Administration
At least 2-3 years’ experience with Hardware & networking
