About the Position

Our non-for-profit client is looking for a Finance Director.

The Finance Director is responsible for managing all financial matters of the firm and its programs.

The Finance Director will report to and work closely with the Chief Administration Officer.

In addition, she/he will partner with top leadership and the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies across the organization.

The Finance Director will oversee all compliance and recognition for government (federal and state) contracts and private grants.

She/he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.

Essential Functions:

Finance

Manage organization's budget process.

Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.

Oversee cash, investment and asset management.

Oversee finance strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships.

Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization's operations and business plans.

Create financial reports and participate in quarterly finance meetings with leadership.

Planning, Policy and Investor Relations

Develop financial business plans and forecasts.

Participate in corporate policy development.

Engage the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors to develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections.

Remain up-to-date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal laws regarding nonprofit operations.

Accounting and Administration

Oversee semi-monthly payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payroll, and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local wage and hour laws.

Oversee the Finance Team to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function; manage the finance staff.

Create financial policies and ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures.

Ensure timeliness, accuracy and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, corporations and the Board of Directors.

Manage the audit process and proper filing of tax returns, including interfacing with the auditors and the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and preparing the financial statements and all required schedules.

Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.

Work closely with the Development Team to prepare financial portions of grant applications.

Oversee the compliance-related functions for the retirement plan, including overseeing the filing of the 5500.

Qualifications

The Finance Director will be a leader with at least 5 -7 years of broad finance experience, with at least 3 years of experience in a non-profit organization ideally beginning in audit, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership.

She or he will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting and reporting) for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources including government (federal and state) contracts and an affiliate structure with diverse program areas delivered nationally.

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree; a CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.

At least 5 – 7 years of broad finance experience with 3 years of experience in Finance in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $10 million.

Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting.

Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.

Deep knowledge and understanding of government grant reporting.

Strong knowledge of up-to-date applicable federal, state and local wage and hour laws.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
