Job Description
IT Operations Engineer
Summary:
As a member of the Network Operations Center (NOC), the IT Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring that IT systems are monitored and functioning appropriately.
Using IT Operations monitoring and management tools, the engineer will provide technical troubleshooting, oversight, and escalation for complex network, server, and storage incidents.
The NOC will also provide 24x7 incident management for major incidents that require coordination of communications, tracking of issues and escalation to management.
The IT Operations Engineer will monitor and support IT Operations across functions, including Infrastructure, Security, Enterprise Applications, Business Applications, as well as hardware break/fix, vendor interaction, maintenance, and system/software updates.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide effective support of the Firm's Information Technology environment and related components including server performance monitoring and reporting, tuning, system software updates, and troubleshooting.
Monitor a wide variety of information and network systems that include telecommunications circuits, LAN/WAN systems, routers, switches, firewalls, VoIP systems, servers, storage, backup, operating systems and core applications.
Recognize, identify, and prioritize incidents in accordance with customer business requirements, organizational policies and operational impact.
Provide timely response to all incidents, outages, and performance alerts; Categorize issues for escalation to appropriate technical teams with proper documentation and notification.
Collect and review performance reports and report trends in hardware and application performance to assist senior technical personnel to predict future issues or outages.
Perform tier 1 troubleshooting in attempt to resolve issues related to Network, Telecom, Server, Storage, and Data Center related facilities; Escalates as appropriate.
Monitor, test and review systems identifying abnormal or suspicious activity, collect appropriate data to triage and escalate for tier 2 investigation.
Resolve production incidents by working with internal and external technology support organizations; is accountable for owning the incident and driving through to resolution.
Manage service requests and execute standard changes with minimal supervision.
Communicates, collaborates, and acts as a team player with others in order to ensure continuity and coordination of services while executing these changes.
Develop and document operations processes and procedures.
Notify and engage third-party service providers of issues, outages and remediation status.
Provide incident management coordination by opening conference bridges, notifying proper staff and managers of major issues or outages, facilitating proper communication with
Service Desk staff, and managing outage communications.
Education and/or Experience:
Required:
Minimum 5 years NOC and/or IT Operations experience
Minimum 5 years experience supporting network and server technologies, including
Microsoft, Cisco, EMC, Client and Dell
Working knowledge of router/switch/firewall configurations
Experience working with both applications and infrastructure vendor support
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues on multiple hardware platforms including: Cisco, Client, Dell, EMC Systems
Knowledge of common monitoring tools, such as SCOM, SolarWinds, Hostmonitor, and the
ability to interpret their metrics
Understanding and monitoring protocols including SNMP, NetFlow, WMI, syslog, etc.
Experience in routing, switching and TCP/IP troubleshooting techniques
Preferred:
B. A./B. S. or equivalent work experience
ITIL Foundations certification
Industry recognized certifications in operating systems, networking, security and/or
storage MCSE: Server Infrastructure Solutions Expert
Minimum 2 years experience with security monitoring
Configuring and troubleshooting servers and using Vendor System Management tools
SAN / NAS storage configuration and management of EMC equipment
Cisco IOS experience
Microsoft System Center Suite experience
Proficient with PowerShell
