Position: Support Specialist for Publishing Technologies

Position Summary:

The position will support the technologies required for mass-market multi-channel publishing.

This involves configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting client-server systems used for editorial workflow, asset management, and font management.

This position will also provide end user support for the software and systems used by creative staff (editorial, design, etc.).

It also involves developing and maintaining automated systems that distribute content to digital platforms.

We are looking for a proactive problem solver who is enthusiastic about learning new processes and technologies.

Responsibilities

Support the process for publishing to all print and digital outputs, including web, mobile devices, eBooks, and PDF replicas.

Respond to technical inquiries and problem reports from creative, editorial, and business units.

Track these issues and document their resolution.

Assist with testing, deploying, upgrading and supporting publishing related software, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, vJoon K4, Universal Type Client, and SCC MediaGrid.

Monitor and troubleshoot servers within the publishing systems. Make configuration changes as needed, including user account management, and creating/removing metadata fields.

Assist in developing, testing, and implementing process improvements, especially through automation and system integrations.

Write instructions for end users. Update support procedures and documentation as relevant.

Qualifications

Strong troubleshooting skills, diagnostic mindset, and creative problem-solving abilities.

Demonstrated ability to understand, identify, and solve software problems. Must be detail-oriented and thorough.

Experience working with creative professionals in a technical or support role. Must have strong spoken and written communication skills, and be comfortable working with a range of stakeholders, including editors, technical infrastructure teams, application developers, and business heads.

Familiarity with publishing technology and companies strongly desired. Should be familiar with editorial workflows, CMSs, and digital asset management. Experience with publishing suites (such as Adobe Creative Suite/Cloud’s InDesign and InCopy) and/or digital asset management systems (such as SCC Media Grid) required.

Experience supporting client/server and web-based systems. Proficient in utilizing remote management tools (for client workstations and servers).

Must have experience supporting macOS (OS X), and be comfortable in cross-platform environment (Windows, UNIX/Linux).

Scripting experience (JS, Applescript, Python, etc.) a plus.

Familiar with the dominant mobile platforms and devices (iOS, Android, Kindle, Nook, etc.).

Experience in bringing apps and content to various marketplaces a plus (e.g. Google Play, Texture/NIM, Zinio).

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge gained through some college-level education plus work experience.
