Job Description
Position Summary:
The Sr Desktop Engineer is responsible for management and oversight of the desktop computing environment which is a blend of PC and Mac computers.
The primary focus will be to build a standardized platform for each technology, remediate current differences in the environment, and build new processes to deploy and maintain a high level of standardization and simplification.
This position will be part of a small team that acts as the main technical resource managing the tools and issue resolution for the end user computing environment.
Job Responsibilities
Defines and implements processes for managing a standardized desktop environment.
Maintains desktop application, patch, and other client deployments by packaging, scripting and deploying applications across enterprise workstation desktop environments using automation tools, i.e. SCCM, SMS, Marimba, Filewave, Altiris, scripting and other enterprise specific tools.
Develops and integrates builds by deploying a hardware agnostic desktop management solution and providing an environment that ensures currently deployed machines can be remotely brought up to new corporate standards in an automated fashion.
Gathers requirements and implements systems that simplify management of and improve the user experience.
Packages applications and creates user profile packages for various use cases.
Documents resolutions and analyzes trends in order to be proactive in problem solving.
Establishes and maintains automated computer inventory and tracking utilizing desktop management tools.
Acts as an escalation point for the Desktop Operations Team.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field
Advanced degree (MBA, Master's) preferred
8+ years of progressive desktop engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Occasional travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
Strong experience with building processes around desktop deployment.
Experience with patch management and development of application deployment packages to include scripting, application re-packaging, and automated deployment/remediation.
Experience with enterprise automated deployment tools, e.g. SCCM, Marimba, SMS, Filewave, Altiris.
An excellent knowledge of Windows 7 and 10 and Microsoft Applications; and an in-depth ability and understanding of Windows 7 & Windows 10 registry, services, drivers, file systems, etc is required.
Experience with ITSM tools e.g. ServiceNow, Cherwell
Experience with Macintosh in the enterprise for any of the above requirements is a strong plus.
High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
