Job Description

Position Summary - General

The Data Analyst provides support to all departments of the organization, with principal interface with the Underwriting team. Data Analysts often have limited prior background in workers compensation insurance, though insurance data management is a plus in the role.

The Data Analyst's role is standardized in nature at its outset, but evolves over time applying basic data analysis skills leveraging a strong background in Excel and Access.

The role is primarily an internal support role, though external contact with agents/customers is expected, and increases with time.

Duties and tasks reflect variety and complexity in workers compensation insurance data reporting.

Under direction from the Senior Insurance Programs Data Manager and the Senior Database Analyst, the Data Analyst will maintain and report from standard database files, develop standard rating models, manage data cross references, etc.

The Data Analysts role requires a high degree of timeliness and accuracy.

The Data Analyst will resolve routine data reporting questions and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher levels.

To that end, the Data Analyst will not be called upon to design database systems or reports, but over time the role may expand to include report writing design (leveraging skills in Excel and Access).

He/she works with all departments (teams) to gain knowledge of service and operational processes and procedures, including expediting Underwriting and certain Claims (TPA) reporting/analysis processes and support of Audit team activities.

This role is based in our Scottsdale office and is not a position filled on a remote basis.

Reports to: Senior Insurance Programs Data Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintaining, producing and distributing database driven reports on a timely, accurate basis.

• Creation and reconciliation of Pricing and Variance Analyses for new and renewal business.

• Imports into and exports from Access databases Audit, Claims, and Underwriting Departments.

• Standardizing and normalizing of large data sets for integration to systems and reporting tools.

Qualifications

Required:

• High School Graduate or GED as minimum education requirements. Prefer graduation from college or related work experience in similar environment.

• Proven strong skills in Excel and Access (formatting, formula generation, query design, VB helpful).

• 3 or more years of related experience (insurance, financial institutions, or business office environment), in a data-centric role.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills; time management.
