Job Description
Hands on Linux Engineering Manager
Responsibilities:
Exercise thought leadership and innovation in the resolution of technical challenges, as well as in the creation of long-term technical roadmaps for global UNIX/Linux
Provide best in class support, solve deeply technical challenges, and communicate technical topics.
Develop and execute a robust platform automation strategy, including system and application deployment automation and configuration management.
Develop and execute a strong measurement and monitoring strategy, including system and service monitoring and performance measurement.
Develop, train and manage a strong global team to manage both existing UNIX/Linux and develop new systems.
Act as escalation manager for highly critical business requests, responsible for driving team members to meet expectations and for working across teams to achieve a common goal.
Actively participate in production outage investigation, resolution, ensuring root-cause analysis is identified and knowledge gained is applied for process improvement.
Review and research solutions for cost effectiveness, compliance to standards and ability to meet future needs.

Qualifications
10+ years of working in complex Systems Engineering Environments.
4-5+ years of Unix/Linux experience.
A solid understanding of Linux/Unix operating systems along with networking concepts, particularly with the ability to troubleshoot issues that involve the network, interpreting packet captures, and diagnosing connectivity issues.
5+ years of technical application support and troubleshooting.
3+ years of Technical Lead or Technical Management experience.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
Skills
Working knowledge of multi-tier applications and their dependencies including load balancing, TCP/IP networking, web services, LDAP and DNS.
Experience with monitoring tools like as Nagios, Zabbix, and Splunk
Experience with Chef or similar automation frameworks
Proficiency with file servers, including NAS and SAN, and associated protocols to serve files across a network
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; capable of writing justifications, training users in complex topics, writing status reports, documenting procedures, and interacting positively with other staff

Must be capable of independent problem-solving and self-direction
Ability to handle competing priorities and deliver solutions in a timely manner
Capability to easily change priorities as the business dictates
Basic knowledge of dev ops principles and AGILE development practices, tools and methodologies
Knowledge of business continuity planning/disaster recovery processes, procedures and best practices a plus
Experience in automating repetitive tasks using agile software development practices and tools such as
Chef, Puppet, GIT, BASH and Python Scripting a plus
Principle Accountabilities
Manages a team of engineers and provide support to technical teams and the business.
Assesses risk levels, solves problems creatively, and communicates effectively in a very fast-paced environment where multitasking, sense of urgency, and attention to detail is critical.
Deploys in-house and 3rd party applications with a keen focus on automation and hardening.
Identifies and resolves performance issues and bottlenecks.
Collaborates with our Global Information Security team to provide secure solutions.
